Rummy 500, also known as 500-Rum is a popular card game that is commonly played in Europe and the USA. Research has shown that the game of Rummy is one of the top five games played in the West, with Rummy 500 being one of the most popular versions.
The original game of Rummy goes back to the 19th century and versions of it with unique scoring systems and rule changes have appeared all across the world from Turkey, Britain, Australia, China and more.
Like with so many games Rummy is now played online with people from all around the world and some are even indulging and playing for money with tournaments taking place for prizes in the $1,000s.
One of the reasons that Rummy is so widely played is that unlike cards games such as poker and blackjack, Rummy is a game with a deep strategy and requires more advanced skills. With Texas Holdem Poker, in each hand that takes place a player is given two random cards and five random cards appear on the board.
But in Rummy, while the original cards given to the player are random, the player then spends the rest of the game giving and taking cards and his hands becomes one he develops on his own, and not one of luck. For this reason Rummy is not listed by the US Government as a game of "gambling" but rather as a game of "skill."
